Let’s go all the way!

“He that justifieth the wicked and he that condemneth the just,

even they both are an abomination before the Lord.” Proverbs 17:15

By Riley J. Hood-CPoW State Chairman

Milwaukee County Supervisor Khalif Rainey is proposing a resolution to rename Red Arrow Park “Dontre Hamilton Square” in honor a mentally ill vagrant who attacked a Milwaukee Police Officer with his own baton.  The only problem is that Red Arrow Park is named the Army’s 32nd Division, aka the “Red Arrow Division.” But then again, veterans and patriotic Americans should take a back seat to people who commit criminal acts. Why stop at Red arrow Park? Let’s go all the way, here are a few suggestions:

·         The Federal Building could be renamed the Idi Amin building.

·         The Bradley Center could be renamed the Mao-Zedong Center.

·         The US Bank building could be renamed the Josef Stalin building.

·         Lincoln Avenue could be re-named Dahmer Avenue.

·         Grant Park could be ne-named Osama Bin-laden Park.

·         In Bay View, where I live, California field was renamed Sijan Field, after Corporal Lance Sijan, our local Congressional Medal Honor winner, but times are different, and maybe we could rename the field Pol-Pot field or Ho Chi Minh field.

You get the point.  People named their children after Paul the Apostle, and they name their attack dog after Nero, the Roman Emperor, because they understood Proverbs 22:1  We name places after people who do honorable things, we do not name public places after crooks and criminals. I would oppose a John Dillinger Park as much as I oppose this current resolution.

Today, people have no concept between innocence and guilt, and I call upon all of Wisconsin’s pastors to start emphasizing “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evil doer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on his behalf.” I Peter 4:14-15

Just as there is a difference between a terrorist and a martyr, there is a difference between police force used against the innocent and police force used against the guilty. In this case the man whom Alderman Ramey wishes to honor, Dontre Hamilton was never proven guilty, but it is unquestionable that Dontre Hamilton attacked a Milwaukee Police Officer, who then fired in self-defense.
