OFFICIAL STATEMENT: The Constitution Party’s Position on Marriage

26 Mar

marriageThe battle for marriage and western civilization in general is being fought between the American people and the proponents of same sex marriage led by the United States government.  Same sex couples have aligned themselves with the government’s relentless assault on Christian civilization and western civilization in general.

Many Republicans along with 277 corporations led by Goldman Sachs and its CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, have joined the government’s brief to the U.S. Supreme Court in favor of overturning The Defense of Marriage Act and California’s Proposition 8 which allows civil unions but bans same sex marriage.  The battle is, in essence, a struggle to establish whether the American people have the right to determine what their culture will be or whether that culture will be imposed on them by a tiny elite.

Many arguments are put forward by those who favor the government’s position but the primary one is that to deny same sex couples the right to legal marriage denies them the Equal Protection of The Laws which is prohibited by the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Lloyd Blankfein is quoted in the New York Times as saying “I think people wanted to attach themselves to what may be the last great civil rights issue of our time.”

Many arguments are also put forward by those who oppose the government’s position.  Opponents argue that it would mean the destruction of thousands of years of culture and of western civilization itself.  The cost of legalizing same sex marriage would be tremendous as more than 1000 laws favoring married couples would have to be extended to same sex couples.  The will of the people would be thwarted as Proposition 8 was passed by referendum in California.

The Defense of Marriage Act was passed by Congress to prevent states which did not want same sex marriage from having it imposed on them by states which did.  The President’s position had always been that it was a state law decision but he switched sides about a year ago.

Marriage is ultimately not a legal question but a religious one, and therefore, if the President of the United States, all 100 members of the United States Senate, all 435 members of the United States House of Representatives, and all 9 Justices of the United States Supreme Court declare same sex marriage to be legal, it is still not legal.  It cannot ever be legal because God has defined what marriage is and what God has declared to be illegal mankind is not empowered to declare legal.  God’s definition of marriage is the only definition that ultimately matters.

The Family plank of the 2012 Constitution Party Platform states:

“The law of our creator defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman.  The marriage covenant is the foundation of the family, and the  family is fundamental in the maintenance of a stable, healthy and prosperous social order.  No government may legitimately authorize or define marriage or family relations contrary to what God has instituted.  We are opposed to any judicial ruling or amending the U.S. Constitution or any state constitution re-defining marriage with any definition other than the Biblical standard.

That is the Constitution Party’s position on Marriage.
